The Will of
WALTER CROMPTON
of Sunderlandwicke in the County of York Gentleman
Dated 1694
To be buried at the discretion of the Executrix.
Gives to the poore as followeth viz the sum of three pounds a year to be paid out of profits of land called Sunderlandwick to be paid & distribute upon the same day of the month as I shall happen to dye & so to continue the payment thereof yearly and every year for ever that is to say, twenty shillings yearly to the poore of the Parish where I happen to be buryed & twenty shillings a year to the poore of the Parish of Great Driffield to be & distributed to the poore Widowers and Widows by the Overseers of the poore respectively & also twenty shillings a year to the poore of Sunderlandwicke in the Parish of Hutton Cranswick to be paid yearly for ever as aforesaid.
Proviso to Overseers for Distraint on nonpayment
Gives to his dear & loving wife Ann Crompton all lands & tenements called Weedlands in Holderness & her heirs for ever.
Gives unto said wife all lands & tenements in Sunderlandwick & all lands in Skirlington Psh of Atwick County York during her life and then as to lands in Skirlington (after her decease) and all his (Testators) Rectory of Leconfield after his decease & gives & devises same unto (Testators) nephew Robert Crompton of Little Ruston for life and after his decease then to Walter Crompton third son of the said Robert & the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten & for default of issue then to Robert Crompton 2nd son of said Robert & the heirs male of his body & for default of such issue then to John Crompton first son of said Robert & heirs male of his body & for default of such issue then to his (Testator) right heirs for ever.
As to lands in Sunderlandwick out of love & affection to his said wife give full power & authority by lease in writing to let & demise same & lands to whom she pleases to hold them from her death for six years after her decease & after the 6 years be expired then I
Give the same lands in Sunderlandwick unto the above named Walter Crompton third son of my said nephew Robert Crompton & the heirs male of his body & for default of such issue then to Robert Crompton his brother & heirs male of his body & for default of such issue to the right heirs of me (Testator) & Walter Crompton for ever.
Gives unto his Sister Jeggins one guinea for a legacy in full of what she may claim out of my estate.
Gives all goods cattels & chattels to said wife Ann Crompton whom I make sole Executrix.

Witnesses Robert Wade, Mary Milner, Ann Adamson, Thomas Milner.
Probate granted at York 31 March 1714 to the Executrix
