1n 1898 the settlement of Haughton appeared to be centered around
Haughton Castle at GR NY 918 729, which off the north edge of the map. The modern farm of
Haughton Mains is on the outskirts of Humshaugh, which is the postal address. Humshaugh
is situated seven miles north west of Hexham in Northumbria, on the North Tyne River and
west-south-west of Chollerton at grid reference NY 923 718.
