| BOY ATTACKED BY A DOG Master C. Crompton, a son of Mr. Thomas Crompton, farmer ,of Cottam was on Wednesday savagely attacked by a retriever dog which savaged his face. His father conveyed the boy by motor to Dr. T. Sanctury's surgery at Driffield, and the wounds were dressed. The condition of the boy is said to be rather serious. |

In the second quarter of 1934 Charlie married Ruth THEAKSTONE (GRO ref: Bridlington 9d 833), who was born on 16 August 1914 (GRO ref: Bridlington 9d 741 - mother Charlton).
During the war Ruth lived in Burton Agnes with her mother and sister whilst Charlie was the Flight Sergeant engineer, service number 523461, serving with the RAF in India, referred to in Thomas' letter.

Hill House is located at an unknown location on Main Street, Burton Agnes, YO25 4NG. Hill House was also the 1939 home of Henry C THEAKSTONE (Charles Henry in the 1911 census), his wife Doris and one child John W. In 2020 it was a detached five bed roomed, four bath roomed property with five reception rooms and was the home/workshop of David Cooper an architectural ironworker/artistic blacksmith.
In 1950 Charlie was on the first ship to pass through Suez Canal on the way to Singapore. There he worked with the Gurkhas and visited Burma. In 1956, with Charlie still stationed in Singapore, Ruth and Garth, then aged nine or ten, had joined him and there are family stories of visits to Raffles. Though they were unable to attend Judy's wedding, material was sent from Singapore to make Judy's wedding dress, which was also worn by her daughter Debbie and is a family heirloom for Debbie's daughters.

that the Rayners Lane house was bought at the time when Charlie ended his engagement
with the RAF at the age of about 53. Both RAF Uxbridge and RAF Northolt are close by.
After the divorce, Ruth remained at Rayners Lane but lacked any substantial support. Instead of heating the house, jumpers were worn. The children sent food parcels that included 5p coins for the telephone. Ruth, who had never worked, took an office job to pay the mortgage. In 2020 the property was valued at £457,000. | It has not been possible to locate Charlie's divorce papers. There does not
appear to have been a second marriage. Charlie died in Eastbourne in December 1984
(GRO ref: Eastbourne 18 589).
Ruth died at 7 Robert Saunders Court, Unwin Close, Letchworth Garden City on 31 January 1993 (GRO ref: Stevenage 15b 5371B 173). Her ashes were interned at Burton Agnes. The family wrote 'Charlie was the black sheep of the family. Dad said he lied and cheated and couldn't stand him even though he was his brother. Very sad. He then went to Nova Scotia, Canada, where his family still live. It has not been possible to trace Charlie's journey to Canada or his return to the UK in the UK or Canadian sailing records. There is no obvious will for Charlie's death in 1984.

| Their first child Thomas David, known as David was born in the third quarter of 1934 (GRO ref: Bridlington 9d 510). David was in the merchant navy and met his wife Mary when the ship was docked in Canada. After their marriage, they returned to the UK, but Mary didn't settle and they returned to Canada to make it their home. David became a chef at the ore mines of Labrador. After Mary's death, David lives with his daughter Cindy in her family home near Corner Brook, Newfoundland. |  |

David died on Tuesday 30 January 2024 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland at the age of 89 years. He was mourned by his daughter Assunta Joyce, son-in-law Mike, his son Colin Crompton and daughter-in-law Sarah; together with his grandchildren: Andre Quenneville, and Simone Quenneville. David is predeceased by his wife Mary Crompton and sister Judith Hale. He was cremated.

| At the beginning of their marriage, Malcolm was a design engineer heavily involved
in the Rapier missile. Malcolm and Judy lived with his parents, where Barry was born,
until they could afford a home. Malcolm was then offered work with Hawker Siddley and
the family moved to Harrow, where Kevin was born in Enfield Hospital in 1960 and
Debbie at home in 1967. BAC Stevenage offered him a job, where he stayed the rest of
his working life. The family moved to Letchworth where Stephen was born in Hitchin
maternity hospital in 1970.

The family were due to live in America before Debbie was born but Malcolm contracted cancer so couldn't travel. In 1966-7, they were then due to move to France to work with Aerospace. The job was secured, Barry and Kevin had schools, house rented when Judy found out was pregnant with Debbie and couldn't travel.
Between 1959 and 1969 Malcolm and Judy lived at 96 Abercorn Crescent, also in Rayners Lane but separated from Charlie and Ruth by the Piccadilly Line. They were ten minutes apart via the railway footbridge.
From 2003 until her death Judy lived in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, where Malcolm died on 26 April 2006 (GRO ref: Hitchen and Stevenage 23c 534/1C) and was cremated at Harwood Crematorium, Stevenage. Malcolm's will was processed under the Winchester Registry. Judith died on 15 February 2020, the result of a head injury from being blown over by Storm Dennis.

| JUDITH HALE
Sadly passed away on 15th February 2020 aged 83 years. She will be deeply missed by her children Barry, Kevin, Debbie and Steve, their partners, grandchildren, family and friends. Funeral service on Friday 13th March 11.00am at Harwood Park Crematorium, Stevenage, followed at 12.30pm by a memorial service at Central Methodist Church, Letchworth. Judy loved football and supported many teams, so we invite everyone to wear their team scarf or simply a colourful scarf if they wish. Family flowers only, donations in Judy's memory to East Anglian Air Ambulance and Alzheimer's Society. |
