Their daughter, Margaret Clare CROMPTON, known as Clare was born on 18 October1941 (GRO ref: NE Cheshire 8a 253). Their son John Richard Mark CROMPTON, known as Mark, was born on 25 February 1944 (GRO ref: Macclesfield 8a 291a), one of the 977 babies born at the Elizabethan Adlington Hall, a wartime maternity hospital for the wives of serving officers: his father being a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves at the time.
