The Electoral Roll of 1949 has a manual strike of the record Ellen Milner. It is assumed that this adjustment had been made after her marriage. Leslie Thomas had returned home. At this time there is no family knowledge of Florence having the second name of Veronica.

The 1954 Electoral Roll shows that the family were established at 6 Scott Street, Canterbury in the electoral subdivision of Deepdene, where Bill followed his trade in painting and decorating. In those days, it was a good solid protestant middle class areas of Melbourne. Later the Australian TV series called 'The Sullivans' was situated in East Camberwell, not far Bill and Ellen's home in Canterbury. They were 'good' suburbs to raise a young family in before and particularly after the war. Nowadays they are amongst the most expensive inner to middle eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The 1958 Electoral Register for Deepdene shows the Ellen was still at the same address. However, Bill is not shown on the alphabetical register. Nor does he appear to be registered in the Ancestry Electoral Roll register. |

| Sometime after Bill's death on 01 February 1961 Ellen moved to 2/7
Middlesex Road in Sydney Hills where she was living for the 1972 Electoral Register.
Judging by the many post boxes at the entrance and the 2/7 address, this is a multi-occupation / sheltered building. Right: 2/7 Middlesex Road, Surrey Hills in 2010 |
