Dear Mrs Tibbits
Your letter being addressed ”Hessle" only reached me this morning: I fear I have very little to tell beyond what you already know. Yes! Thomas Crompton of Bridlington was my grandfather (his wifes (sic) name was Mary for I have ? ? & ? marked with their initials) I was not air are ? was ? married: I always heard my mother was an only child; I never heard them speak of a half brother & very little of her family in any way: she was left an orphan at 12 years of age in the care of a man named Robinson (a Quaker for who was also her Trustee: which leads me to believe my grandfather had something to leave, for mother always said Mr Robinson robbed her of all she had with the exception of a few houses in Bridlington from which were sold soon after her marriage to my father if she had not some means she would have been obliged to earn her living which I know she did not & being married from the Robinson with whom she boarded:  I never heard of Caleb Crompton nor do I know where my grandparents are buried but as at that time the only place was the

graveyard of the Priory Church no doubt they would have been buried there I have an ?t of hazy recollection of going to look at some graves beyond the west door sometimes with my mother would they be the ones I wonder.  I have two sisters living in Grimsby I will ? four letters to them & if they can remember more than what I have written I will write you again I regret I cannot help you more but as my mother rarely mentioned her family we know letters & I suppose as time went on her present life filled all her thoughts she died in 1892 aged 84 one of the sincerest women who ever lived I am sure.
If you will let me hear, at any time if you hear fresh endeavours I shall be very pleased & I will certainly write if I remember any thing further.

With kind regards
Believe me to be
Yours sincerely
Harriett Wood
