In the 1871 census the number number of children still living at home had reduced to two, with all the boys moving away from home. The number of live-in employee had also fallen, though there was still a domestic servant helping out.

A group of children had moved to Weaverthorpe where, at the age of 24, John Jordan had a substantial farm. Two of his spinster sisters lived with him, although they were attributed no occupation. The anomaly is Harry Jordan, John's nephew, who was also born in Weaverthorpe.

By 1881 the Jordans had retired to Bridlington, to a terrace house, which now can not be found in the Post Office directory of post codes. The daughters 'at home' had changed with Mary Ann being of 'spinster' age. It is possible that she remained unmarried and had moved to Grimsby by the time of Mary Agnes' 1912 letter.

Mary's death

Mary died, in Bridlington, in 1892 aged 84. By this time she was already a widow. Mary Ann has remained at home, to be joined by William. The house seems to be situated in an area of Bridlington where the owners are all 'Living on own income' with servants. Ashbourne House, in the vicinity of York Place, no longer seems to exist.
