In the 1911 census Arthur had returned to York and had moved next door to the house in which he lived with Anne in 1891.

One suggestion is fourth quarter of 1933 aged 86 GRO reg: Berkhampstead 3a 1133). His age corresponds to his year of birth. His probate records Arthur TOPHAM of Sunnycroft, Anglefield Road, Berkhampstead dying on 16 October 1933 leaving £77 15 shillings to Ida Mary Lewis, a widow. Ida Mary was his daughter and from the 1921 census Berkhampstead would be a sensible location for his death. Arthur was living with his daughter.

On 18 December 1925 a Gertrude Topham, aged 50, sailed on the Ruahine of the New Zealand Shipping Company as a third class passenger from Southampton bound for Wellington, New Zealand.
Ida Mary TOPHAM - Anne and Arthur's second child
Ida Mary TOPHAM was born in the fourth quarter of 1876 and christened on 29 October 1876 (GRO ref: Malton 9d 366). In 1901 she is recorded as living at Inchicore Road, New Kilmainham, Dublin. On 07 November 1907, Ida arrived in Quebec, Canada on the Lake Champlain, bound for Vancouver British Columbia. She was described as a 38 year old Irish immigrant born in England. She arrived as a domestic servant and intended to continue in the line of employment. On 16 January 1915 she married Arthur Robert LEWIS at Point Grey, British Columbia, Canada. In 1918, an Arthur R LEWIS was a draftsman in the Wallace Shipyards on 42nd Avenue West, Vancouver City. There is a suggestion that Mr AR LEWIS, his wife and infant and Master R LEWIS sailed on the Canadian Pacific Melita on Tuesday 17 June 1919 as cabin passengers from Montreal to Liverpool.

On 13 November 1935, John Robert TOPHAM sailed from London on the SS Loch Katrine bound for Norwalk, California where he had lived before his journey to UK. He was a single farm labourer aged 45 who could read and write. He gave F.Dunster (friend) of Chapel House, St Michaels, Tenterden, Kent as a UK referee. Norwalk is a suburb of Los Angeles.
| The Ventura County Star of 14 May 1956, reports a John R TOPHAM died on 05 May 1956 after a long illness when he was living on Route 1, Box 386 Fillmore, Ca. He was buried in Bardsdale Cemetery, Fillmore. He had no known relatives. His obituary gives his birth as 02 March 1881. | ![]() |
