There is an obvious change of surname from ROWLEY to ROWLIN. The link back has been through the
unusual family name of Newyear born 1761 and 1829. The change of surname may be due to pronunciation
or dialect
Judging by the location of his homes Newyear ROWLIN was a man
of some substance and standing. It is possible that he knew Thomas Richardson CROMPTON
and that their children may have met and married because of a common social standing.
A Newyear ROWLIN is listed in the 1834 voters for Bridlington as a freehold house owner in
Kirk Gate. In the 1841 census his widow was 'of independent means', living in
street where Thomas CROMPTON, born 1738, had lived.
In 1841 Thomas Richardson and Isabella were recorded as living at High Green. This green
area is bounded by Pinfold Street and the end of Kirk Gate.
